چکیده
Given the increasing age of our built environment, including concrete structures, stakeholders in construction industry require innovative and effective strengthening methods. In several studies onsite applications, iron-based shape memory alloy (Fe-SMA) reinforcements have proven to be competitive alternatives well-established materials. The objective this investigation was study effectiveness two different prestressed methods for members flexure using recently available ribbed Fe-SMA (“memory-steel”) bars. Reinforced slabs similar cantilever extension box-girder cross-sections were strengthened only cementitious anchorages subjected quasi-static loading. first method comprised removal cover installation memory-steel bars with an additional mortar layer. second cutting grooves cover, followed by (near-surface-mounted). prestress obtained via resistive heating specimens exhibited highly improved cracking, yielding, maintained ductility until ultimate compression failure. Observations utilizing a digital image correlation system indicated damage-free prestressing process no premature failure reinforcement. Different analytical approaches used estimate prestress.

Fibre reinforced polymer reinforcing bars for bridge decks
This paper describes the behaviour of two full-scale models of a portion of highway bridge slab reinforced with fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) reinforcement. The first slab was reinforced totally with carbon FRP (CFRP), and the second slab was reinforced with hybrid glass FRP (GFRP) and steel reinforcement. The models were tested under static loading up to failure using a concentrated load acti...
متن کاملBridge Decks Strengthened with Near-Surface Mounted Bars Embedded in Cement-Based Grout
Near-surface mounted (NSM) bars have been used for flexural strengthening of reinforced concrete members. The data available on this type of reinforcement technique are limited and typically, the bars or strips are embedded using an epoxy. Long term durability, abrasion resistance, and compatibility of the repair are important issues with this type of repair. One untested option for embedding t...

This paper explores the effectiveness of shape memory alloy (SMA)/rubber-based isolation systems for seismic protection of bridges against near-field earthquakes by performing a sensitivity analysis. The isolation system considered in this study consists of a laminated rubber bearing, which provides lateral flexibility while supplying high vertical load-carrying capacity and an auxiliary device...
متن کاملSEISMIC OPTIMIZATION OF STEEL SHEAR WALL USING SHAPE MEMORY ALLOY
Nowadays, steel shear walls are used as efficient lateral-load-resistant systems due to their high lateral stiffness and carrying capacity. In this paper, the effect of substituting a shape memory alloy (SMA) material is investigated instead of using conventional steel in the shear wall. A numerical study is conducted using finite element method (FEM) by OpenSees software. For this purpose, at ...
متن کاملExact solutions for pure torsion of shape memory alloy circular bars
Shape memory alloy (SMA) structures are usually analyzed numerically; there are very few closed-form solutions in the literature. In this paper, we study the pure torsion of SMA bars with circular cross sections. First, a three-dimensional phenomenological macroscopic constitutive model for polycrystalline SMAs is reduced to the one-dimensional pure shear case and then a closed-form solution fo...
